In general, buying a Christmas present for your boss is a good idea. It’s an opportunity for you to show your appreciation for them, especially if they’ve been kind to you. When your boss gives you a Christmas present, you absolutely have to return the favor. However, there are certain situations where you hesitate to give your boss a Christmas present and I will briefly address the following situations:

- The company or office avoids making a big fuss about Christmas

- You don’t like your boss
Of course, if your boss doesn’t celebrate Christmas, don’t buy him a Christmas present. However, you can also gift them on other occasions such as birthdays, boss’s day or father’s/mother’s day. If you know their religion, you can give them something for their religious holiday. Anyhow, the tips and ideas I share in this article can be applied to occasions other than Christmas.
Some companies or offices avoid it for various reasons such as: B. the presence of many non-Christian workers to celebrate Christmas. In such a case, there is no office Christmas party where people exchange gifts. However, if your boss is celebrating Christmas, there’s no reason why you can’t give him a present privately.
You may be on a tight budget, especially during tough economic times, and it’s understandable. However, that’s not a good excuse for not buying your boss a Christmas present. You can always team up with a few other co-workers to buy your boss a gift. It can either be a large or expensive gift that would be cheap if shared between several people, or it can be something like a gift basket where everyone makes a small contribution. Another idea would be to invite your boss to a nice Christmas dinner together.
What if you don’t like your boss? Well, that’s a tough question. No one likes giving gifts or having dinner with someone they don’t like. However, if this person is your boss, it can still be beneficial to buy her a Christmas present because you want to be on her good side. Also, it’s always rewarding to be nice to others.
I once worked in a shop with an owner who nobody liked because she was kind of mean and always trying to find fault with everyone. I noticed the designer handbag she was carrying and decided to purchase a gift certificate from a store that stocks this designer brand as a Christmas present for my boss. Her eyes lit up when she received it. She said she really appreciates it as none of the other employees have ever bought her a Christmas present. Yes, she still scolded me from time to time, but whenever I would come to her to do her a favor, like ask for a few days off or leave a little early to spend time with my little daughter, she never made a fuss.
To reiterate, I firmly believe that buying a Christmas present for your boss is a good idea. It’s always a nice feeling to make someone’s day, no matter who they are, because by doing so, you make your own day better.
