The sex allegations against Prince Andrew
In 2019, American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein took his own life in a holding cell in Manhattan. He was then accused of sexual offenses against minors, a crime he had previously been convicted of.
It was the beginning of a major scandal that involved sexual abuse, human trafficking and several of Jeffrey Epstein’s friends – high-ranking socialites – were discovered.

Prince Andrew was one of Jeffrey Epstein’s socialite friends. In August 2021, the British prince was drawn into the scandal. He was accused of molesting American Virginia Roberts Giuffre on three occasions when she was 17 and Andrew was 41.
Andrew has denied the allegations but was stripped of the title of Royal Highness as well as several military honors.
Blackmailed the court after alleged affair
A divorce application was the start of a scandal that would haunt the Swedish court for a long time. The scandal that came to be known as the Haijby affair.
In 1936, Anna Haijby filed for divorce. In the application, she claimed that her husband, Kurt Haijby, would have been unfaithful to her with King Gustav V.
The claim quickly reached the court, which held a crisis meeting. Not only was it an infidelity scandal, homosexuality was still criminalized at the time.

When Kurt Haijby began demanding money to keep his sexual relationship with the king a secret, the court bowed to his demands – they could not risk the king’s reputation being damaged.
For ten years, Kurt Haijby blackmailed the court of around SEK 250,000. But the money was paid out in vain and the scandal that the court had fought so hard to keep secret was made public. The scandal that shook the whole of Sweden is still talked about today.
The court lady was convicted of murder
In 1986, Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson married scandal-ridden Prince Andrew. The new duchess traveled the world on her official duties and had her maid of honor, Jane Andrews, by her side.
Fast forward to 1997. By then the marriage with Prince Andrew had broken up, after the divorce the official duties ended and Jane Andrews had to quit.
Shortly thereafter, things went very wrong. On 17 September 2000, Jane Andrews attacked her fiance, Tom Cressman, with a cricket bat and a knife after an argument.

The former court lady inflicted such severe injuries on her partner, who had gone to sleep at the time of the attack, that he died. Afterwards, she must have gone for a jog – her dead fiance was still in the bed.
After the murder, Jane Andrews was on the run for four days and was only caught after Sarah Ferguson left two voicemails on Jane’s phone pleading with her former maid of honor to surrender.
Jane Andrews herself claimed that she had acted in self-defence and, despite her denial, was sentenced to prison for the murder.
