The next variant of PlayStation VR – simply called PlayStation VR2 – will launch early next year. Sony confirmed that this week.
The Japanese gaming giant took to social media to share the news. On Twitter, Instagram and elsewhere, Sony posted an image of the headset, with the message “coming early 2023”.
No more exact date was shared, so then we just have to wait.
PlayStation VR2 delivers upgraded virtual reality, with several improvements from its predecessor. The glasses boast 4K resolution and support for up to 120 frames per second, a field of view of 110 degrees and tracking of what your eyes are looking at.
The VR2 Sense controllers have many of the same functions as the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller. Here, there will be both tactile feedback and adaptive shoulder buttons. The headset itself also vibrates, which for example allows you to feel the player character’s pulse in stressful situations.
At launch, Sony promises that over 20 PlayStation VR2 games will be available. Among them is Horizon Call of the Mountain, an adventure set in the same universe as the Horizon series from Guerrilla Games.
