Athena is the third feature film by Romain Gavras. For the screenplay, the director worked with his sidekick Ladj Ly, who won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 for Wretched.
On the casting side, Romain Gavras called on Anthony Bajon, Ouassini Embarek, Sami Slimane and Dali Benssalah, noticed in the latest James Bond Dying can waitfor the lead role of Abdel.
