Once again the crack was installed within the General Confederation of Labor (CGT). Just as the supporting document for Cristina Fernández de Kirchner in the framework of the road trial, caused certain differences in the CGT ranks, now the discussion revolved around the call for a general strike for next week, with a mobilization towards the Supreme Court of Justice.
After a long meeting in the historic Azopardo building, the board of directors of the workers’ union declared a “state of alert and permanent session” and resolved to continue the debate next Monday.
The vertigo of the events attempted against the possibility of an agreed action between the different sectors. The positions were made clear by the General Secretaries themselves: Pablo Moyano promoted a cessation of activities with marches and concentration in front of the Palace of Courts, while Héctor Daer and Carlos Acuña preferred to remain “on alert”noting that this Friday’s holiday had given the population the opportunity to support the vice president.
Given the lack of agreement and to avoid speaking again of conflicting positions and the latent possibility of a break, the triumvirate held a press conference. There, accompanied by Moyano and Acuña, Daer took the floor to announce that “The CGT declares itself in a state of permanent alert and convenes a new meeting for Monday at 4:00 p.m., to re-analyze the situation of how it is unfolding in these hours and how society is acting.”
CGT: on Monday they will analyze the course of events
The also General Secretary of the Health Union explained that in the meeting of the board of directors the possibility of a general strike for next Monday was discussed, measures that will be considered again next week. Union sources explained to iProfesional that “the possibility of calling a national strike was directly related to the realization of a mobilization” and they added that “with the demonstration that we saw in Plaza de Mayo it seems that it is enough to show the rejection of the attack on Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and the support that the vice president has today.”
From the sector of the “Gordos”, “Independientes” and “Barrionuevistas” (Daer, Acuña, Gerardo Martínez, Andrés Rodríguez, José Luis Lingeri and Armando Cavalieri, among others) they considered that “Another cessation of activities was going to generate a reaction from the opposition, when the discussion should not go through this, but through the speeches of violence that have led us to this situation, where for those things of fate they did not kill the vice president in front of the eyes of the world.
The general secretary of the CGT repudiated the failed attack and assured that they remain “on alert”.
Call for a Legislative Assembly with the three Powers
In the midst of these positions, the CGT Press Secretary and head of the Insurance union, Jorge Sola, pointed out: “I suggested to President Alberto Fernández that a Legislative Assembly be convened with all the political actors but with the Supreme Court, where the three powers are represented.”
Alone stated that “It has come to a point where we must all reconsider with our speeches and privilege agreements that allow us to get out of this dynamic of two conflicting sectors without the possibility of dialogue”, while recommending sectors of the opposition and the media to “have a real dimension of what happened but, above all, of what could have happened” with the attack against Cristina Fernández.
The attack suffered by the vice president at the door of her home on Thursday night, activated the contacts of the union leadership. On this occasion, the need to come out with a forceful document was privileged. Before 11 p.m., the document came out, where the General Confederation of Labor of the Argentine Republic expressed its “deepest repudiation to the savage attack perpetrated against the Vice President of the Nation Cristina Fernández de Kirchner”.
Attack on Cristina Kirchner: “The violent express themselves only with brutality”
He stressed that “the attempted assassination must challenge all political leaders that day by day tense the social climate to irrational levels, putting their safety at real risk”. And he stressed that “the hatred that emanates from the political confrontation at the moment, exacerbates the spirits of all and the violent ones express themselves only with brutality, generating very serious episodes like the one tonight”.
He indicated that “This fact is not isolated, but is directly related to the wave of violence that is generated against some popular leaders encouraged from many sectors of politics and the media” and announced the call for Friday morning. There, several leaders communicated with the bases so that they prepare for a mobilization before the sure popular call for a concentration in the Plaza de Mayo.
The workers’ union stressed that it would meet to decide the steps to follow “In relation to this sad and shameful fact for the history of our democracy. Our solidarity with fellow Cristina. Enough violence.”
Héctor Daer, Pablo Moyano and the other leaders of the CGT have not yet confirmed a strike and demonstrations.
The meeting at the Azopardo headquarters was attended by union leader Hugo Moyano who, in addition to repudiating the facts and charging against the political, media and judicial opposition, tried to bring the parties closer together. The head of the Truck Drivers union called for maintaining the unity of the CGT. “Hugo intends that the union leadership show itself without divisions beyond the political and execution differences; believes that it is a signal not only to the opposition, but also to the government itself,” revealed a union spokesman.
