Netflix Series Arcane Wins Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program

In many cases, series and films based on video games are only interesting to people who actually play the game. In the past, however, this group was often disappointed by the unfortunately rather sobering quality of the finished product. Recently, however, such video game adaptations have been quite impressive, as shown by the success of Riot’s Arcane series with their MOBA League of Legends.

The series has made many friends not only among the actual players, but also among users who have never entered Summoner’s Rift. It’s no wonder Arcane won a coveted Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. The series beat out The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, What If…?, and Bob’s Burgers.

“Honored doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel about winning the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. Thank you to our incredible team at Riot Games and Fortiche, the Television Academy, and the amazing fans (yes, you) who make this possible have made possible,” writes Arcane on Twitter.

“Thank you. It’s a big deal for us coming from video games. It’s been amazing to see the world embrace our characters and our stories, so thanks to Netflix for believing in us from the start, thanks to Riot Games, who worked on the entire IP… and to all the people who have worked with our game and League of Legends over the past 12 years and helped make it the size it is now.”

Arcane is the first streaming series to win an Emmy for animation. The first act of the series premiered on Netflix in November last year. Riot Games has already confirmed that we can look forward to a second season of the show. However, it is not yet known when this will appear exactly.
