Yvon Gérard has been missing since August 17 in the Saumur region of Maine-et-Loire. His family is organizing a search this Sunday to try to find him.
A region is mobilizing to find a businessman near Angers in Maine-et-Loire. Yvon Gérard, a 54-year-old notary, has been missing since August 17 in the region north of Saumur.
A search is organized by his relatives this Sunday at the scene of his disappearance to try to find him.
A canine brigade and divers
According to the Western Mail, his car was found parked on a forest path in Breille-les-Pins, a few dozen kilometers from where he lived, in Allonnes. It was his family, worried about his absence, who gave the alert the same day.
The Maine-et-Loire gendarmerie then mobilized to find him, a canine brigade and divers came to lend a hand in the search, in vain. A drone also flew over the area, without success. The police also tried to geolocate him using his phone, but the latter was cut off.
The thesis of suicide is preferred
The gendarmerie launched an appeal for witnesses a few days after his disappearance: “The man was wearing a dark long-sleeved top, beige shorts and sneakers. Anyone who thinks they have seen this individual is invited to contact the gendarmerie on 02 41 52 10 31”, she says.
The Saumur public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation. According to Western Mail, Yvon Gérard would have left a message before his disappearance where he confides his intention to end his life. The thesis of suicide is favored today.
A call for volunteers from the region
His relatives and his family now want to mobilize the inhabitants of the region. “A lot of research work has already been done by the gendarmerie”, explains his brother Pierre Gérard to the Western Mail.
“Unfortunately, this research did not yield anything. This is why it was decided to move on to another phase. This search should make it possible to widen the scope of the research and also to go deeper.”
The meeting is set for Sunday at 10 a.m. at La Breille-les-Pins at the place of his disappearance. “People from his family and friends will be present, but we are also calling on volunteers from the region”, explains Pierre Gérard.
This notary from the east of France is an investor known in particular for being the promoter of the Maison Heler hotel in Metz, designed by designer Philippe Starck. The building is still under construction. The businessman was also at the head of the Moselle ATP tennis tournament from 2003 to 2016 with two childhood friends.
