In the preliminary election results that have been presented, the Social Democrats receive 37.8 percent of the votes in the Östersund municipal council elections. This means that the party increases by 5 mandates and gets a total of 23 mandates.
It also means that S will be by far the largest party and will now have to hold the baton for which parties will govern the municipality for the next four years.
– To get the math together and get up to at least 50 percent, we need to hold talks with other parties, says opposition councilor Niklas Daoson.
C balls over issue of cooperation
One of the parties that the Social Democrats can now negotiate with is the Center – a party that went backwards sharply and looks set to lose five seats.
– Of course I would have liked to see better numbers for the Center Party, says Effie Kourlos (C), current municipal councillor.
Could you imagine governing together with the Social Democrats?
– That ball is currently in the Social Democrats’ court.
Hope for quick decisions
Back at the Social Democrats, Niklas Daoson says that contacts have already been made with various parties. Who they are, he keeps to himself for the time being.
When can there be news about the board in Östersund municipality?
– My ambition is for it to go as quickly as possible, but perhaps during the next week.
