It’s often difficult to tell what a cat’s feelings are. For example, how do you know that a cat loves you? Cats don’t talk, so you have to find another way to say it. Here are some tips for getting in touch with your cat’s feelings.
1. On her tail
A cat’s tail often shows how she’s feeling. If her tail smacks hard against you or a nearby object, she may be tense about something.
But if her tail is erect or curling around you or playfully slapping you, it probably indicates that the cat is happy. She tells you that she enjoys being with you and is feeling relatively calm at the moment.
2. Purr
Most, if not all, cat owners know that purring is a sign of a cat’s contentment. The louder the purr, the more she enjoys your company.
Now don’t be fooled if your cat doesn’t purr; it doesn’t mean your cat hates you. It just means your cat may never purr or may just not feel like it. But please don’t be discouraged if she doesn’t purr.
3. She follows you around
A good sign that a cat loves you is if it shows you that it wants to be around you all the time. She will follow you everywhere, in every room in your house.
Your cat will often want to be the center of attention. So if you’re working at your kitchen table, for example, she’ll jump onto your table to watch. If you’re taking a bath, she’ll want to be in the bathroom with you, with her paws on the edge of the tub. She will want your main attention.
4. Your cat won’t let you leave the house
Say you go to work. As you leave and head for the front door, your cat plops right in front of you.
Your cat is telling you that she doesn’t want you to leave. She knows you have to go, but she doesn’t want you to. She wants you to stay and keep her company.
And there’s nothing you can do but step over and walk over them. Or you can pick her up and cuddle with her for a second and let her know that you love her and will miss her. She will miss you too.
5. Knead yourself
Cats knead a lot, but when they knead on your lap, it’s a sign of trust. They see you as a mother because as kittens they knead their mother to get milk flow.
Kneading is also a sign of marking you. But it sure is a sign of your cat’s love and trust.
There are other signs cats use to show their love for you. For example, bringing you presents (sometimes formerly living ones), speaking to you in cat language, and staring at you. Hopefully you can understand your cat’s love for you and you will love and care for your four-legged friend very much.
