Our cats may be the most lovable creatures on earth, however Clean cat urine off the ground is still a tall order. Not only do you need to remove the cat urine, you also need to remove the odor. Otherwise, your cats will smell the remains of the urine and pee there again. To effectively remove cat pee odor, you need to kill the bacteria that are the main cause of the odor.
One of the best cat urine removers is Nature’s Miracle. This is an enzyme cleaner – you can buy it at places like Target, WalMart, or Petsmart. It is a concentrated liquid and comes in a white bottle with a red cap. The directions on the bottle are pretty easy to follow. Not only does it remove cat pee from your floors, it can even remove it from carpets and fabrics. This stuff can be a bit pricey, so you might want to get a black light to use with it. Turn on the black light in the dark and it will make the cat pee stains glow yellow or green. Then you can simply use the Natures Miracle on those spots without washing the entire floor or carpet.
Any commercially available enzymatic cleaner will likely work as a cat pee remover – it doesn’t have to be Nature’s Miracle. The only thing is that enzymatic cleaners can be a bit finicky. Not all work on all types of stains. You need to make sure you get a brand that is suitable for cat urine removal. So the best place to buy is probably your local pet store. Check out where they sell the cat litter. Better yet, ask the store staff where they store the enzyme cleaners used to clean cat urine.
Another great way to clean up cat urine and its odor is to use a steam cleaner. Friends have had good results with the Polti Vaporetto, which uses steam to disinfect and remove dirt. This steam is also very effective at killing the bacteria in cat urine and works on both your floor and carpets. The Polti, however, is on the pricey side. Something cheaper like the Light and Easy steam mop works almost as well, for a fraction of the price.
If you’re on a tight budget, you can soak the spot where your cat peed with strong disinfectants like Dettol or Listerine. You may need to repeat this a few times to remove all of the odor. Pour boiling water over the spot can also work – you just have to be careful. Some types of bleach can and should kill bacteria. But you want to check the ingredient list before using it. Make sure it doesn’t contain ammonia or it will only entice your cats to pee there again.
So, here are the top three ways to remove cat pee from your floor:
1) enzymatic cleaners such as Nature’s Miracle;
2) steam cleaner;
3) Any strong disinfectant (like those used in hospitals).
