Why is love so complicated? Love is a headache and a heartbreaking adventure. Most sufferers will walk away with deep scars that they will never be able to fully heal. And yet we always strive to come back and try again and again. Why is that? Simply because love, no matter how hurtful it can be, is still the most fulfilling emotion known to human life. A life without love is a life not fully lived, a total waste. Then you would ask what makes such a beautiful thing so complicated?
Well I would tell you it’s because it asks more of us than anything else. Love can never be satisfied with a partial commitment. Love demands your full attention and all your energy to bear fruit at the end of the day. So it’s not love that’s so complicated, it’s mostly us who can’t live up to their expectations. We tend to believe that words will make up for our lack of commitment and that sex will fix all of our shortcomings in a relationship. Unfortunately, love is much more than physical satisfaction and nice words.
For example, marriages often suffer from open truth. Most men and women would tell you how hurtful their partner is. This always happens when two people know too much about each other. It’s the time when kind words and sex can’t make up for all our mistakes. It’s the time when partners don’t try to hide their personal disappointments as they don’t get what they negotiated for. It’s the time when the truth is meant to hurt because we feel betrayed by love. In reality, love never fails us. We fail in love.
We rush into relationships without being sure how much we love the person and whether we are ready to commit. And when we fail, we just jump to a new one without solving the problems that made us fail the first one. So is love complicated? Not really. But we humans are. We have so many problems, work related, family, our differences, our religions, our beliefs, our fears and all of our expectations. When we sign into a relationship, our minds are already so full that we don’t take the time to think and realize what we’re signing for. We push ourselves forward in the heat of battle.
Most relationships begin when a person is feeling lonely and in need of company, or a person is being pressured to find someone by their peers because of their age, social position, family tradition, or simply out of boredom! How, then, are you supposed to live up to something as demanding as love if you embark on it for dubious reasons? Love can only be effective and lasting if it is inspired by love.
