Do you really think you are governed by a democracy? If that were the case, as we’ve been told over the years, why are candidates — both Democrats and Republicans alike — spending billions of dollars to win elections? You know, it’s interesting how we think we’re better than others when that’s not true. Three books to read if you love politics: 12-hour workdays – helicopter parents – serving one purpose and giving up the other, why it’s easy to control people when they’re scared – Trump’s power motivation and admiration for Putin, the numbers game.
We can’t celebrate our freedoms if we can’t afford a slice of bread, working our fingers to the bone for a single meal while the United States Congressmen and House of Representatives rage, run billion-dollar campaigns, and act like they don’t would be required to raise the minimum wage, vote to confirm Merrick Garland, etc., that’s a problem. Democracy cannot be bought with any amount of money, no matter how small. Democracy must be free and citizens must decide who runs it.
What happens when so much money is involved in the political process is that the very concept of democracy, true democracy, is weakened. Those who spend their money funding their candidates have the final say, whether or not it is in the best interests of the middle class.
The working poor were written off before they even got here. Every country around the world – big or small – is corrupt and ineffective. Their leaders don’t care about their citizens, they care about themselves. If you imagine some countries as civilized… others not… believe their narrative of corrupt methods of government where whoever has the most money has the loudest voice .
Only by ceasing and ending private campaign contributions will real change take hold. Nothing will change if we continue to tolerate greed, corrupt campaigns, loudmouthed politicians, tough talk, partisan politics, no oversight, etc.
Democracy is when every person casts a vote for a candidate they believe is highly qualified and is not tricked into casting a vote for a candidate whose spending methods are shady, dubious and mafia-type. It makes no sense to vote for a gangster-like government that doesn’t care about the safety and well-being of its citizens. Trump and Clinton, really? What an embarrassment! Then there’s Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, both with Alzheimer’s-like symptoms! Are you kidding me?
I don’t understand why our voice doesn’t matter anymore. The broken records of this year’s election in terms of polarization, hatred, division, discrimination, etc. That needs to change; Let’s get back to basics – respect, discipline.
