So where do songs come from? It starts as an idea in the author’s mind and then follows the songwriting process until the royalty checks are received. Try to write from within, based on your natural and spiritual experiences. Once you’ve made up the story, condense it. Here are some tips for preparing a package for review:
1) Name your songwriting business
2) Prepare a cover letter
3) Only send copyrighted material
4) Enter the text on your letterhead
5) Double spacing between verses or paragraphs
6) Block the text as a poem
7) View copyright and originator information
8) Limit yourself to two or three songs, but no more than six
10) Send a demo cassette if needed
11) Label cassettes correctly
12) Mail the package in an 8 ½ x 11 envelope
Be sure to send the package to publishers and record labels to pitch your song(s). The package should be carefully and carefully prepared so that it presents you as a professional and credible writer.
