Training cats is a bit more difficult than training dogs. There are a handful of cat training problems that you will encounter when attempting to train your cat. Cats are more easily distracted and may take longer to teach them. These facts make cat training more rewarding and fulfilling once you see an improvement in the cat’s behavior and once you have overcome some cat training issues.
Train your cat in the open country
Pets naturally love fun and will always try to play with the people and objects around them. This is usually one of the biggest issues with cat training. Animals are very easily distracted and will immediately switch from one task to the next. If you’re trying to train a cat, make sure you’re in an area away from distractions. You can choose an area in your home to exercise the pet and free it from possible distractions. The area should also be distinct from where the cat eats or where the litter box is located. Hide the toys around the area and ask people to stay away from the area as much as possible. This will hopefully reduce the animal training problems you will experience.
Don’t let the kids put the cat in the dishwasher
Cats and children don’t always get along. This is another cat training issue to deal with when you have kids in the house. If you are planning to teach your pet a new command or trick, you must try to get your kids to stay away from the cat. Pets usually scratch children without intending to. Also, you need to slowly introduce the cats and the kids to each other. Monitor their interaction for the first few days or weeks until you are certain that the cats and children are not harming each other. Remind the children that pulling and squeezing the cats’ tails will make the cats angry. When the kids and the pets are already getting along, you can move on to training the cat as you have overcome another animal training problem.
Train your cats separately to avoid cat fights…literally
Another animal training issue you may face is disobedience when other cats are around. If you have more than one cat at home, be sure to train them all separately. When animals are together, they tend not to listen to commands. You can let them interact after the 10 to 15 minutes of training per day is over.
These are just a few of the cat training problems you may have, but once you overcome them you will be able to handle your cat or cats with more ease and confidence. Remember, don’t let the cat train you.
