Dog Behavior Series 7 – Why Do Dogs Shake?

A holiday overseas is a time of great pleasure and it seems a shame to think about the things that can go wrong, but just because you are in a different country there is no reason to assume that you are any less likely come into conflict with one of the things everyday dangers. Theft, loss and medical emergencies can hit you just as badly while on vacation, and the experience is made even more traumatic when you are uninsured and have to shoulder the full burden of any financial loss. Instead of looking at travel insurance as an unwanted expense, remember that you’re paying for the peace of mind that you can relax and enjoy your vacation without worrying about how you’ll handle it if something goes wrong. Travel insurance is an essential part of any vacation abroad, whether you’re a fit young backpacker, an older traveler participating in a group tour, or a young family on holiday at a resort.

If you’re still not convinced, take a look at these reasons why you might need travel insurance.

1) Medical
Australian government statistics tell us that Australian consulates process 900 deaths and 1,200 hospitalizations for overseas travelers each year. Hospitals in Southeast Asia can cost up to $1000 a day and unless the traveler has insurance coverage they are likely to be entirely responsible for the cost. The same government statistics indicate approximately 50 medical evacuations per year. When you consider that you may have to pay $100,000 to be evacuated from the United States, you can see the importance of having insurance.

2) loss
Things get lost when you travel. Luggage gets lost at airports and wallets stolen when you’re sightseeing in foreign cities where you don’t drive as safely as you do at home. However, as long as you have insurance coverage, there is no need to be paranoid. Losing your belongings is always frustrating, but insurance is the difference between a temporary inconvenience and an expensive disaster that could ruin your entire vacation.

3) Flight Cancellation
Flight cancellations are quite common and extremely stressful. At least you can stay in an airport for hours. If you have connecting flights or transfers, the impact can be far worse – and very expensive. Even if you don’t do this, you may find yourself suddenly having to arrange additional accommodation at the last minute or missing out on one or more nights at your destination that have already been paid for. Get basic travel insurance and you’ll be covered for any of these problems.

4) natural events
If you’re stranded abroad due to a natural event such as a hurricane or typhoon, your insurance may cover you. If you are traveling to an area where there is a high risk of such phenomena it is a good idea to prioritize this when choosing your policy as it is not always covered.

5) Personal Circumstances
Unforeseen circumstances in your personal life can mean that you have to cancel your trip or even postpone it altogether. You never know when you might get sick or experience a bereavement in the family. With travel insurance you can reimburse part of the cost of your postponed or shortened holiday.

Far from being a necessary evil, travel insurance is a safety net to ensure your holiday abroad doesn’t leave you spending money unnecessarily. It doesn’t have to be expensive either. There are many cheap travel insurance deals out there, so there’s no reason to leave home without it.
